April 8, 2013 — New York, NY — Capitol Records, in partnership with Lazy Hooks will release In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery, the debut album from Capital Cities, on June 11. The Los Angeles based outfit – founded and fronted by Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, two jingle writers who met on Craigslist  – will be previewing songs from the album during its first-ever North American outing.

The “Dancing With Strangers” tour, which will feature special guest Gold Fields, will kick off on April 23 at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix, AZ. Capital Cities’ May 9 show at New York City’s Irving Plaza sold out two months in advance as well two nights at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. All proceeds from the June 7 show at the El Rey will go to MusiCares and A Place Called Home. The band, which recently appeared at Sundance, SXSW and ULTRA, will also perform at numerous festivals, including Sasquatch! and Firefly. See below for itinerary.

In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery takes its name from the lyrics of Capital Cities’ Top 10 Modern Rock radio hit “Safe and Sound,” which is the album’s first single and has already been heard in promotional campaigns for HBO, Smart Car, Microsoft and more than half a dozen other spots. hailed “Safe and Sound” as “a song that merges high-energy dance beats with unbridled optimism and joy” while Neon Gold pronounced it a “sonic head rush…an easy, breezy, beautiful slice of effervescent-electro-pop that absolutely kills it.” The new lyric video for “Safe and Sound” can be seen here.

The album, which is produced and mixed entirely by Ryan and Sebu is an eclectic mix of tracks that include fan favorites “Kangaroo Court” and “I Sold My Bed, But Not My Stereo”.  The artwork is by Brazilian artist Joao Lauro Fonte who has done works for Wired, Converse and others.  OutKast’s Andre 3000 and vocalist Shemika Secrest are featured on the song “Farrah Fawcett Hair.” The track also includes a narration by Frank Tavares, who is best known as the voice of NPR’s News underwriters, announcing the funding credits that are heard at the end of news programs. The track listing for In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery is as follows:

  1. Safe and Sound
