ELLE KING TO PERFORM AT MULTIPLE SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST SHOWCASES & EVENTS IN AUSTIN, TX MARCH 10-15TH
(New York – February 28, 2013) Elle King, an astonishingly talented new recording artist/songwriter currently in the studio working on her debut album for RCA Records, will be performing at multiple shows and events during South By Southwest in Austin, TX, including her official showcase on 3/12 at Buffalo Billiards. (Find full show line up above and below).
An extraordinary musician, Elle King possesses an incredible songwriting flare and an arresting voice in a category all her own – she also plays a mean banjo and guitar. Born in Ohio and raised in Brooklyn, her musical style and songwriting themes are a blend of old soul, blues, and rock ‘n’ roll and her personal style is Bushwick, Brooklyn meets mid-Western charm.
She has toured with Michael Kiwanuka, Of Monsters and Men, Ed Sheeran, and many others. With the release of her well-received 4 track EP, simply titled THE ELLE KING EP, Elle King received a rave response – the lead single “Playing for Keeps” is featured as the theme song for “Mob Wives Chicago,” and Elle made her television network debut on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” Click here to watch her performance now on Letterman. Who: Recently signed to RCA, King is a singer-songwriting, banjo-wielding wild woman with a sweet, scratchy tone that has snagged her gigs touring with big-time acts like Train and Of Monsters and Men. The Song: “Good To Be A Man” is comically odd in its approach (sarcastic yet singsongy lyrics and a zippy, blues-pop vibe), but the format ends up working wonders. When King quips that her only worry as a male would be a “receding hairline,” it’s hard to deny the cut’s hit potential. Current Project: The video for “Good To Be A Man” is really what seals its fate as a breakout track. Give it a peek, and afterwards, head over to King’s Soundcloud page to hear a whole bunch of material she’s made over the past year. Interview Magazine.com
Artist to watch…Because she’s got the ballsiest voice since Big Mamma Thornton — set to the kind of songs that suggest vengeful consequences for doing her wrong. …Because, as with the younger Patti Smith, every word that leaves her mouth is coated with contempt. It’s a gift, really, the kind that destroys relationships and leaves a string of hand-punched holes in shady motel rooms. And when she belts “I bet you’re sorry now,” you’ll want to apologize for things you might not have even done.”Esquire.com
“Enter Elle King… Ohio-born…and Brooklyn-raised, Elle’s brand of groove is dirty, bluesy, and soulful. She plays the guitar and banjo, and a mere 22 years-old, she croons like an old soul on her debut release, ‘The Elle King EP,’ now available on iTunes.” Glamour.com
“’The Elle King EP’ – dangerously catchy.”-Entertainment Weekly’s “Must List”
