THE JOY ELEVATION – self titled EP

Self released September 2012

The joyously monikered and voiced Mia Joy delivers three classic rock-tinged songs on this, her debut EP.

Track 1 – Games – swaggers out of the speakers with an insistent riff and the righteous twirl of a microphone stand – this is rock n’ roll the way they used to make it, Joy pitching her delivery somewhere around the Baby Animals’ Suze De Marchi level.

Led Zeppelin comparisons come to mind on middle number, I Adore You – a soulful tale of yearning that is all light and shade and restraint, the musicians (Rob Garnett, Brenton Scambler, Adam Rando) saying more with what they don’t play than with what they do, allowing Joy’s voice the focus it deserves.

Games is the closest thing on offer to a straightforward rocker, a crunchy riff laying the foundation for Joy to lay down an earthy vocal reminiscent of Pat Benatar’s finest work.

A great start and we’ll be eagerly listening for more.
