JACKSON FIREBIRD – Cock Rockin’ CD
Warner Music, June 2012

7/10
JACKSON FIREBIRD are an Aussie two piece who kick hard against the pricks on this, their nitrous infused debut album.
No prisoners are taken from the opening salvo of title track Cock Rockin’ – Brendan Harvey’s guitar is as raw as his vocals, and Dale Hudak thunders away on his drumkit, customised with, well… a bottle bin, of all things.
It makes for a heady garage rock sound that is one part White Stripes, one part Black Keys, and 8 parts rock n’ fucking roll.
There’s also the occasional hint of Kid Rock-style rapping, though with a heavy Aussie accent, especially on Quan Dang, Can Roll and Sweet Eloise – the former of which fares the best out of this clutch of tracks.
“Cock Rockin’ “ is custom made for playing live in a sweaty pub, and whilst it’s a shame that we missed them when they were in town recently, they seem to be making a lot of noise on the other side of the pond, showing the Poms that Aussie rock doesn’t have to be all sub-AC/DC riffs!
