I wasn’t sure what to expect when I popped this in (well, actually downloaded and played).  I had no clue who some of the bands referenced in the other reviews or press release were, but decided to take it for a spin anyway.  Still trying to digest this one after about 10 spins.

“Angry Mother Of Bones” is sonically there, but the screaming/incoherent vocals really detract from the music.  The music ranges from perceived experimental to etheral at times.  “Hand Collide” starts off with a very cool guitar driven intro that features some great playing.  Again, the vocals are almost too angry – but I can’t tell as I don’t understand a word being screamed.  “Men At Arms,” much like the two previosu tracks feature some excellent guitar work and instrumental showcasing.  The intricate placement of certain sounds adds to this track.  This track then follows it predecessors, in that it features vocals that just don’t add anything.  “Billions Of Eyes” comes strong out of the gate and could be a metal juggernaut based solely on the musicianship.  This is a high spot for those looking for a heavier riff.  “The Weight & Time” closes the disc with all of the same features as the other four tracks here.  This blends a lot more of the different guitar sounds: heavy riff, prog, experimental, etc.

Let me say again, the vocals are not my thing – if you are into the screaming vocals that aren’t recognizable for the most part, this is for you.  Me, I would love to get this EP with the vocals removed, as it would be a great mini collection of songs to put on and go about your day.  This disc would have been a 4 Star affair if it were an instrumental.  The only thing that saved it is the guitar work and riffy nature of the music.
