A Dirty Dozen with CHANCE LaBRIE from FALSET – June 2026
According to a recent press release: “Modern metal band FALSET release a new single entitled “Happy Life.” This song is from the band’s upcoming album, Day In Day Out, which is slated for release next year on January 15, 2027. FALSET plans to release several singles in the months to come to tease Day In Day Out. Sonically, Day in Day Out blends the band’s trademark technicality with massive choruses, cinematic textures, and a sharper, more refined production approach that marks a clear evolution from previous releases. FALSET, with a fresh take on metal’s future, hailing from Ontario, Canada, are known for a heavy yet highly melodic sound. Blending technical musicianship with strong songcraft, the band balances intensity and accessibility, creating music that is both aggressive and emotionally driven. FALSET’s sound sits at the intersection of today’s latest metal and hard rock.” We get drummer Chance to discuss new music, influences, and more…
1. Tell us a little about your latest release. What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through? Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?
Our latest release, “Happy Life” is the first single of our new record, Day In Day Out and is a classic Hard Rock, Active Rock tune with a big catchy guitar riff and catchy vocals. There are little easter eggs and nuggets scattered all over the new record, but “Happy Life” is the more straightforward radio track on the record, hence why we made it the first single off the record.
2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?
Growing up on the road with my father (James LaBrie from Dream Theater) was the coolest experience in the world as a kid. At a very young age, I knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps and create music and play shows so I started by learning guitar, and then drums.
3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?
There were so many bands that inspired me growing up such as System Of A Down, Korn, Periphery, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Foo Fighters, Architects, Bring Me The Horizon, Dream Theater, Nickelback, Metallica and others!
4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?
Off the top of my head, I’d have to say having Chad from Nickelback sing on a Falset song would be so cool. Afterall, us Canadians gotta stick together! I’ve always loved Nickelback from a young age, they can pump out sick riffs and catchy melodies like there’s no tomorrow.
5. What is your favorite activity when out of the studio and/or not on tour? What do you like to do to unwind?
When I’m not working with the band, I enjoy going to the gym and working out, doing yoga, downhill skiing, eating good food and watching good films.
6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?
I’d just call Falset Modern Metal / Hard Rock to anyone that asks because we are really all over the place. In one song we could have screams and djent breakdowns and in the next song we could have a pop melody over a catchy rock riff so it’s hard to call us one thing. I’ll let the listeners decide for themselves. Honestly the weirdest comparisons are the ones where people mash together two bands that have nothing in common. We got compared to MCR and Imagine Dragons and I still haven’t figured out how that works.
7. When your band is hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?
I usually take on the cooking duties, Zach gets the drinks in and disappears after almost every show, and Christian is the first to crack out the acoustic guitar.
8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?
As a kid I got really into Skrillex, and when I was 14 years old I ran into Skrillex and Deadmau5 at the Grammy’s. The next day in the airport I ran into him again and we had a nice little chat. A lot of people don’t know that Skrillex was actually the frontman of From First To Last. Super cool guy.
9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?
For me the best part of being a musician is creating music, and making something that didn’t exist before and then listening back to it and saying, “This is sick.” If I couldn’t be a musician, I’d be a sous-chef at McDonald’s.
10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?
I’ve always wanted to be asked about my burger ranking’s. I take my burgers very seriously, I’ve searched all over Canada and The States for the best burger and I can honestly say the best burger is Burger Drops in Toronto. Conversely, I hate being asked when our new album is coming out. Hahaha.
11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?
Yeah, there’s probably many things I would do differently now if I could go back and do it all over but I try not to think too much about that and just move onward focusing on the present and future.
12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?
I’d probably go with Metallica’s Master Of Puppets as it’s my favourite Metallica album and growing up it was one of the bands me and my buddy started playing and jamming to at a very young age. To be a fly on the wall during the making and recording of that album would be so cool.
