On an evening with so many events happening at the same time, from Bruno Mars to Sepultura, the serious post-psychedelic fans showed up for New Candys at the East Room in full force. They were seriously in charge on that stage and held the crowd with every single moment of their performance. The stage was filled with a constant stream of different projector shapes and images to help perfect the vibe of the evening. As a massive fan of psychedelic rock, I was instantly excited when I heard that New Candys would be making a stop in Nashville. For a 3-piece act, this band has a major band sound. From the moment they got on the stage to the last note, they held the room in a constant state of motion and excitement. Every single person in attendance enjoyed the evening and went up to the members after the show and showed their support for such an amazing evening.
I was extremely happy to get to see them perform “Aphrodite In Leather,” its heavy riffs and full force feeling really drive it home when seen live. This band is one to definitely not sleep on. Any fan of The Black Angels, Velvet Underground, and any of the other psychedelic rock genres in general. They were nothing less than simply amazing. So much sound and energy produced through a small outfit, I was simply floored. They had a lot of competition for shows going on in and around town, and that didn’t deter them from putting forth one major performance that I will always gladly revisit and go out of my way to see perform live again. I had a hard time figuring out what to write about this performance because every moment was absolutely perfect. I was left stunned. When I talked to the members after the show, I was humbled by how genuinely nice and caring they were towards their fans. This is always one of those things that will elevate a band to higher levels and create a solid lifelong fanbase. I expect to see them really get attention and larger room performances in the near future.
