Showcasing an artist performing on the 2026 Upheaval Festival…

According to a recent press release: “SHOWING TEETH dropped her second single “Rip” Friday, February 13th, the fierce follow up track to her viral debut song “Labyrinth,” which continues to gain traction across streaming services and social media. SHOWING TEETH has quickly carved a name for herself in the metal scene with her unique blend of melodic singing and a deathcore-inspired vocal range. Seamlessly transitioning between gut-wrenching growls, piercing shrieks and clean vocals, Showing Teeth stands out as one of the most dynamic and versatile singer-songwriters in the genre. Through her original sound, Showing Teeth incorporates intricate rhythms, melodies, and vocal techniques that inject a fresh perspective to progressive metalcore. More than just a vocalist, Showing Teeth is a conduit for the collective aggression, Showing Teeth isn’t just a name – it’s a statement.” We get Showing Teeth to discuss new music, influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

The new track “Rip” opens up with “I know exactly what I’m on about” which I thought was a funny addition to a very serious song. It’s a very Kentucky thing to say to someone “Now, what are you on about?” when someone is being ridiculous. So I wanted to inform the listener immediately that I actually DO know what I am on about–the violence is intentional.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I started playing bass guitar in middle school, and honestly that was the immediate hook. I wanted to play in bands for the rest of my life. My family very heavily discouraged me from the concept of doing music as a job, but I kept working on music in my free time. It wasn’t until I was out of college and working a normal salary job that I decided I had no choice but to figure it out. I was ready and willing to do everything including singing, which is how that started.

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

Animals As Leaders and Periphery completely altered my taste in music. Hearing those two bands for the first time is something I will never forget. And then listening to “Breeding Violence” for the first time from Whitechapel’s album A New Era of Corruption was a pivotal moment in my relationship with deathcore. That whole album was huge for me, but something about that song is so special to me. It’s iconic.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

If I’m supposed to pick another heavy artist, Stick To Your Guns would be a dream. But I also would love to work with an electronic artist like I Hate Models or something. I think combining genres and styles is really exciting.

5. What is your favorite activity when out of the studio and/or not on tour?  What do you like to do to unwind?

I love to hike for as long as possible. The perfect hike day is around 7-10 miles, maybe a little rain, and then go home and eat a sandwich.

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

Showing Teeth is pretty musically narcissistic. Of course I want a song to sound good, but I’ve never really cared about what is “supposed” to go into a song, so it can often be chaotic and change styles pretty dramatically. The only thing that makes me cringe is when I am compared to other women artists and we don’t sound similar at all. If a pop music fan did that, they’d be laughed at. But I’m sorry, you are right, I was really trying to sound like Hayley Williams when I did that guttural, thank you for noticing.

7. When your band is hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

I don’t really have a traditional band, but when I am hanging out with Matt Halpern and Zach Munowitz, Matt is the first person to be overwhelmed by the spirit of song. I hope everyone gets the chance to hear Matt sing one of his little tunes. Zach laughs at my jokes, and that is very important for morale.

8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?

Everytime I see Kittie live. I am so scared of them in a good way, they are unbelievably impressive live.

9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?

I still have a full time job, so the best part is the escape. It’s nice to know there’s a whole musical world I created and I can go there whenever I want.  I work on Showing Teeth every morning and every night for hours. It’s my favorite thing.

10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?

I’ve hoped someone would ask me about my car recording studio, but shockingly no one asks. I record vocals in my car. It’s honestly super comfortable and now I really prefer recording sitting down.

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?

I wish I believed in myself sooner and didn’t try out so many bad band situations.

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Suicide Silence – The Cleansing or Deafheaven – Lonely People With Power. The Cleansing is just the ultimate classic to me. Everything is so right and iconic and it completely changed the game. Lonely People With Power became an instant classic the moment it dropped. It immediately cemented itself as the ultimate Deafheaven album and raised the bar for every band.
