Made my way to Neighborhood Theatre to check out some great Blues and Southern-tinged rock courtesy of Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel.  The crowd filled in early to catch opener Jamie Wyatt, whose music is as good as her story is interesting.  She played a few songs from her catalog and chatted with the crowd introducing herself, her backstory, and her songs.  Her time on stage was spent mostly solo and acoustic as she ran through her set.  Before her time ended, she welcomed Betts and his bassist on stage to join her for her final song of the night.  After chatting with Jamie (as well as watching her talk at length with all that wanted to talk to her), I made my way back into the stage area of the venue and waited for Duane and his band to take their places and play for the fans that made their way out.  If blues swirled with a bit of rock and roll is your flavor, tonight’s performance was nothing but serving after serving of music that created a series of delicious morsels that made each of us hungrier for more as the night wore on.  The set was full of riffs and bluesy emotion-filled solos that filled voids that may or may not have existed but seemed complete as they were presented.  Duane made sure to share the spotlight, musical interludes, and solo opportunities with his rock ‘n roll brethren that joined him on stage, allowing each musician to showcase their specialties from time to time throughout the course of the evening.  The music seemed livelier than I imagined or was used to after listening to the 2023 Wild & Precious Life release.  This genre and style or rock has never been first on my playlist or something I would put on over the course of an ordinary day, but Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel’s performance tonight changed that.
