On a beautiful Tuesday evening, Simple Plans’ Bigger Than You Think! tour rolled into Queen City and landed at Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre three bands in tow to open the show.  Starting on time, opener LØLØ – who has hit my rotating playlist in my office –  hit the stage full of energy and loaded with ample amounts of proverbial piss and vinegar.  Rolling quickly into her set, she entertained and pumped the crowd up with the help of a guitarist and drummer.  Her latest single “the devil wears converse” hit early in the set and was followed up by one of my personal favorites, “debbie downer.”  The pop-punkstress made sure to invite us all to an upcoming show across town in November.  LØLØ proceed to push through her set with stories and songs about ex’s as well as other fun that properly amped the crowd up for what was to follow.  Next up was another band I was interested to see, as I dug into their track (and set closer) “1985” from the first time I heard it.  It doesn’t hurt that I identify on EVERY level with the song.  These guys entertained from the miunte they hit the stage with great songs and banter that made them instantly likeable.  After a killer opening with “Girl All the Bad Guys Want” we were treated to a mashup into of “Hey Mickey” and “Fight For Your Right” that gave us all a sonic glimpse into the later part of the set when they dropped other covers on the crowd, including The Darkness’ “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” and “Stacy’s Mom,” with the latter being incorrectly attributed to BFS through the years.  The setlist included other fun songs that I have listened to through the years including “Punk Rock 101.”  I have heard of 3OH!3 before, but knew nothing about them.  While not necessarily my thing, they played well to the crowd and entertained from song to song as we all waited for the headline set.  There was no denying the energy that flowed from the stage.

The venue filled up nicely as Simply Plan’s crew readied the stage for them to please and entertain the crowd on hand.  Piling heavily from the bands first four releases, the evening was packed with pop punk hits that kept everyone singing from song to song.  From set opener “I’d Do Anything” to “Perfect” and “Addicted,” the band was tight musically.  The bond between the founding members that remain together to this day is obvious as they roamed the stage and played fan favorites one after another.  A few songs into teh set, they lit into “Jet Lag” and welcomed LØLØ to the stage fro the assist.  Much like other bands tonight, Simple Plan also gave a tip of the cap to other artists with covers and snippets of hits to pump up their own set and further entertain the crowd.  I was impressed with many of the songs in teh set and even found a couple new songs to add to my playlist with “Welcome To My Life” being a front runner.  As their set and time on stage wound down, the band ditched their older material and closed the set out with “Where I Belong” before treating us to a one-two punch of “I’m Just A Kid” and the previously mentioned “Perfect” to close the show.  Never being one to sit and play a lot of the bands music, I found myself bobbing and weaving through their setlist over the last couple days while editing photos and collecting my thoughts of the show.
