REVELATION FILM FESTIVAL 2025 – TEN ROCKING FILMS NOT TO BE MISSED
By Shane Pinnegar
This year’s Revelation Film Festival is certain to be hugely popular with another dizzying lineup of diverse movies to enjoy.
Here’s ten rocking films not to be missed:
1. PATER NOSTER & THE MISSION OF LIGHT – Record store clerk and vinyl collector Max and her friends get embroiled with supernatural death cult in pursuit of a legendary ultra-rare record! I caught this one early and it is a wild ride.
2. BIG MAMA THORNTON – I CAN’T BE ANYONE BUT ME – Documentary about the legendary blues singer who sang Hound Dog before Elvis and was a trailblazer in every way.
3. PAULINE BLACK: A 2-TONE STORY – Pauline Black of The Selecter tells her own story, exploring how music gave her a way to fight against racism and sexism and the oppressive Thatcher regime.
4. PAVEMENTS – Being touted as a reinvention of the rock documentary, Pavements follows the band Pavement through various projects. Super intriguing.
5. TWST: THINGS WE SAID TODAY – An “experimental documentary” about the The Beatles in New York City over one weekend in 1965.
6. LESBIAN SPACE PRINCESS – An animated adventure as guitar playing space princess Saira has to rescue her ex-girlfriend from the Straight White Malians. This looks like loads of fun.
7. SPERMAGEDDON – sure to be a favourite, this Norwegian animated film about two spermatozoa racing for the prize looks hilariously vulgar.
8. SKELETON GIRLS – 100% West Australian made indie-punk film about a girl on the run, Skeleton Girls has been compared to classics Run Lola Run, Subway, Repo Man and Green Room.
9. MR BURTON – An origin story of sorts of Welsh acting legend Richard Burton.
10. THE AMERICAN FRIEND – Wim Wenders cult favourite from 1977 starring Dennis Hopper, screening to celebrate Wenders’ 80th birthday in August.
