What a great night at Jannus Live! The evening kicked off with Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas, and man, they were a blast. I grew up in New Orleans, and zydeco was everywhere. As a kid, I always felt it was a little kitschy, but as I got older, my appreciation changed. These guys totally nailed the Zydeco vibe and made me really miss wandering around Frenchman Street, heading to the unique music that New Orleans is known for. The highlight was definitely when Nathan (on accordion) and “Chukka” (on rubboard) wandered through the crowd, bringing the music right into the audience. Super fun and totally unexpected!
This was my third time catching The Reverend Horton Heat, and they never disappoint. The Reverend was full of energy, tearing through classics like “Jimbo Song,” “Psychobilly Freakout,” and “Let Me Teach You How to Eat.” Their musicianship is incredible—tight, energetic, and clearly loving every minute on stage. Closing with their killer cover of Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” was a perfect choice, even though it’s sadly not on their latest album. Seriously, they need to record that! As a concert photographer, I love shows where the bands genuinely seem to be having fun, and this was absolutely one of those nights. The stage presence from both groups was top-notch, and capturing their energy through the lens was a total pleasure. If you ever get the chance to see Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas or The Reverend Horton Heat live, don’t pass it up—they both deliver unforgettable, feel-good performances every time.
