In true fashion Melvins got onto the stage to a very enthused crowd at Brooklyn Bowl Saturday, May 17th. Bringing the normal brilliance only they can deliver to the room. Buzzo and the gang dominated the room with their doomy sludge and controlled chaos. It’s always a treat to see Melvins perform in any of their many incarnations and versions over the years.  They played the typical 11-song set one would expect, but once the first notes of “Billy Fish” started, I knew we were into the deep dive assault of “History of Bad Men”, “Honey Bucket”, “Revolve”, and “Your Blessened”. Their set felt like it was over before it even really started. Sonically brutal and to the point. Melvins did not disappoint yet again. After a short set change, Napalm Death hit the stage to roaring applause. They performed hard and fast like only the inventors of grindcore could do. This was the first time I had seen them perform live. I was thoroughly impressed with the high energy and excellent musicianship coming from the stage. The entire crowd almost immediately formed one massive circle pit when they started, and it did not stop until the end of the evening. Taking short pauses between numbers to deliver some humorous commentary they continued with the chaos. Much like Melvins before them, their set seemed like it was over before it had started, but that was already over an hour of intensely fast and hard songs. I would try and catch them again if they swing through town. Melvins I will always go out of my way. Everyone leaving that evening was fully beside themselves from the endorphin rush.
