NEW ROCK N’ ROLL MOVIE BOOK

100% ROCK MAGAZINE editor Shane Pinnegar is releasing his fourth book – a celebration of rock n’ roll movies!

The book is titled ROCKSPLOITATION – celebrating 69 hits, flops and cult favourite rock n’ roll movies.

Shane says:

“It was a huge amount of fun to write and I’m sure it will be to read as well, regardless of how obsessive you are about the rocksploitation genre.

“In it I take a deep dive into the plots, backstory and legacy of each of these 69 films, and critique their merits (or otherwise). I’ve unearthed loads of behind the scenes stories and a veritable panoply of trivia, and provide enough references for further reading to keep any fan sated for weeks!

“I have a very specific criteria for the movies featured – they have to be fictional stories (no documentaries, no live films, no biopics). They have to be ABOUT rock n’ roll in some way integral to the plot. And I really wanted to make it an eclectic and sometimes exotic mix.

“So, as the subtitle promises, there are big hits (The Girl Can’t Help It, Jailhouse Rock, This Is Spinal Tap, The Commitments, Wayne’s World, Blues Brothers, A Hard Day’s Night), flops (The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, Kiss Meets The Phantom Of The Park, Redline, Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Hearts Of Fire), and cult favourites (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Slade in Flame, Wild Zero, That Thing You Do, Leningrad Cowboys Go America, Studio 666, Eddie & The Cruisers, Green Room, Rudderless, Bad News Tour, Only Lovers Left Alive, Linda Linda Linda, Deathgasm, Heavy Trip and many more).

“There are US, UK and Australian films – European and Scandinavian films, Japanese and south east Asian films. There are dramas, comedies, thrillers, romcoms and even schlock n’ roll heavy metal horror movies.

“I tackle them all with affection, humour and insight from the epic to the cheesy to the plain bad, because I LOVE rock n’ roll movies.”

Shane did a photoshoot for the new book yesterday with masterful photographer Pete Gardner, and this is a fun outtake – a little homage to one of the greatest rock n’ roll movies of all time!

“When I started writing this book I had a vision of covering 101 rock n’ roll movies, but to be honest I wasn’t even sure I could find that many. The master list is now up to 450 movies! Enough to keep me busy for a long while if I resolve to do them all. Let’s see how Volume I goes… but Volume II is already half written!”
