Openers can sometimes be a mixed bag. A lot of times they’re a good match with the headliner; other times it’s like they hopped on the tour at a gas station just outside of town. The Sextiles were the former; definitely a great pairing for Molchat Doma. They brought a flurry of energy and exuberance onstage that is not easily followed.

Molchat Doma took the stage and transformed Jannus Live into a swirling dreamscape of brooding synths, driving basslines, and hypnotic rhythms. The Belarusian trio’s signature blend of post-punk, cold wave, and dark electronic music felt tailor-made for the venue’s intimate yet open-air setting, creating an atmosphere that was both haunting and electrifying. Even for those only loosely familiar with their music, the performance was captivating from the very first note. The stark, deadpan vocals of Egor Shkutko, coupled with the relentless energy of Roman Komogortsev’s sharp guitar work and Pavel Kozlov’s pulsing bass, delivered a set that was both mechanical in precision and emotive in its execution. Their minimalist yet striking stage presence added to the experience, keeping the crowd locked in a trance while the music built in intensity. The audience, a mix of dedicated fans and curious newcomers, responded with uncontainable excitement. The hypnotic sways of the fans fully immersed in the dark, rhythmic pulse of the music. Pockets of the pit turned kinetic, with post-punk and industrial fans embracing the raw, infectious energy Molchat Doma brought to the stage. Unlike many electronic-infused acts, their live performance carried an unmistakable grit, a punk-like edge that made the experience all the more immersive. The band’s ability to make something so melancholic feel so exhilarating was a testament to their raw talent and connection with their audience.

As the night progressed, each song felt like a distinct piece of an overarching sonic journey. Tracks like Sudno sent shockwaves through the venue, with its pounding drum machine rhythms and stark vocal delivery evoking an emotive response from the crowd. The heavier, industrial-infused moments had a driving, almost mechanical force behind them, appealing to those with a taste for the harsher edges of post-punk. Meanwhile, the more atmospheric songs built tension masterfully, wrapping the audience in waves of nostalgia and introspection before crashing into pulsating, danceable beats. By the time the final notes rang out, Jannus Live was vibrating with energy, the air thick with a mix of exhilaration and longing for more. Molchat Doma had done what only the best live acts can—fully transport their audience into another world, one drenched in shadow but pulsing with life. As the crowd slowly dispersed into the Florida night, the echoes of their performance lingered in the conversations of the attendees, proving that their undeniably powerful music leaves a lasting impact.
