OPINION: AUSTRALIAN POLITICIAN MAKES RIDICULOUS CALL FOR TENACIOUS D DEPORTMENT
By Shane Pinnegar
Following their Sydney concert this week, a little-known Australian politican – Senator Babet – has called for the immediate deportation of Tenacious D mainstays Jack Black and Kyle Gass.
Alleging that Gass “making a birthday wish, told concert goers that he hoped the next person to shoot at [Donald] Trump did not miss”, the Mauritian born Babet stamped his feet in hypocritical outrage today via a press release designed to appeal to his blinkered and bigoted supporters.
It will come as no surprise that Babet (who is a partner in a lucrative real estate firm with his brother) is a fawning acolyte of corpulent mining magnate and notorious serial-litigator (and loser) Clive Palmer and a member of his United Australia Party, an anti-vaxxer, anti-trans climate change denier, and anti-many other scientifically proven issues and personal freedoms, whilst also loudly beating the drum saying that (to quote Wikipedia) “he stands for freedom and individual liberties.”
Provided they align with his own, it seems, which Tenacious D have dared to disregard.
Ridiculously, not only does Babet completely miss the humour inherent in all things Tenacious D, but he turns his narrow-mindedness up to eleven by suggesting that “anything less than deportation is an endorsement of the shooting and attempted assasination of Donald J Trump, the 45th and soon-to-be 47th President of the United States.”
We can only hope that our Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, although grossly disappointing and ineffectual in his tenure thus far (which is still infinitely better than wilfully destructive and dishonest like our last incumbent) will have the good sense to laugh Babet out of the room and move on to doing some actual work – preferably addressing the cost of living crisis, housing crisis, environmental crises, climate change crisis, indigenous rights and quality of living, or many other far more important issues than “oooh I’m upset that a rock and roll band with a comedic frontman insulted a foreign bigot and compulsive liar who I like because my billionaire boss told me I had to.”
With even more luck Mr Babet will move to the United States to slavishly lay himself at Mr Trump’s feet, saving Australia from listening to his hypocritical hate speech wrapped up in political rhetoric, so we can all get on with our well-overdue economic recovery, and living an enjoyable life listening to great rock n’ roll with an absence of BS.
UPDATE: Tenacious D have postponed their Newcastle show tonight, though no reason has been given, and it is unknown whether the move is related to the faux outrage manufactured by an attention-seeking politician.
UPDATE 20:34 AWST: Jack Black has posted this statement which seems to be cancelling the entire tour, and throwing lifelong friend Kyle Gass under the bus, totally disregarding the fact that to most fans the cost of tickets, travel if required, accomodation, is a big hit – far bigger than Hollywood stars may realise. Weak, Jack. Very weak indeed…
