Xana made a stop at The Abbey in Orlando on her The Sex Was Good tour, on June 16th, 2024. I was early to the performance, so I was lucky enough to be able to observe some of the VIP meet and greet Xana did before the show. So many happy faces filled the room as fans were able to pose for pictures, get albums and posters signed, and have a quick chats with Xana individually. Once everyone had time to get pictures, Xana came to the stage and played a few acoustic songs. After she had a Q&A for the remainder of the time before doors were to open. Some of the topics of conversation were fan’s favorite songs, the mystery behind her age (she is in fact, not 58), and Xana asked what Florida things she needed to try while in the state for her tour. The opener for the show was Rachel Bochner, an indie-pop artist from NY. Her electro-indie sound comes from musical influences including Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, and Chappell Roan. Rachel had the crowd singing and dancing along to her catchy melodies from her first song to her last. Her meaningful messages and lyrical prose are unique to her experiences and allow the audience to connect with her through her music. Rachel’s energy was absolutely infectious, as she had the biggest smile across her face for almost the entire performance. She was the perfect opener to get the crowd amped up for Xana. At the end of her set she played her hit “You Don’t Want Me Like That” and Xana made a surprise entrance to sing along with her. The duet had the fans absolutely erupting with cheers and singing along, myself included!
Xana is an anti-pop artist from Canada who centers the theme of her music around female empowerment and sexuality. She has a unique sound with influences including Halsey, Avril Lavigne, and Taylor Swift that explores many genres. The set included selections from her new Album The Sex Was Good Until It Wasn’t and her debut album Tantrums. Xana was an absolutely enthralling artist who took command of the stage with her lively and passionate performance. She managed to make every member of the audience feel included as she continuously moved from one side of the stage to the other. Xana took time to pause, make eye contact, hold hands, and sing directly to them on many occasions. At one point she even jumped into the crowd! As a fan of her music, I found myself singing and dancing along to many of the songs. However; even if you weren’t already a fan you really couldn’t help but be entranced by the crowd’s energy and Xana’s dynamic stage presence. This concert was an absolute blast to be able to attend. I am so glad that queer artists are making their voices heard so loudly, LGBTQIA representation matters! <3
