Another night in Charlotte NC on business, so I jumped at another band stopping at The Underground. Smash Into Pieces has a different sound, look, and overall vibe for a rock show, but the music is contagious. Their fanbase in the Queen City came out in droves and filled the standing room area of the venue from the minute they hit the stage. It was cool to interact with their fans that came from different walks of life and demographics while waiting for them to hit the stage. The lead vocals from Chris Adam Hedman Sörbye were as good live through the venue sound system as they are recorded, adding depth to the sound and set. These guys came to please, and they did just that. Their music was well received song after song. With a cool twin guitar attack in the mix from Benjamin Jennebo and Per Bergquist as well as the amazing vocals, the sonic groove the band creates is as fun as it is heavy and FUN to listen to. The bands set was pulled from across several releases in their catalog, with Ghost Code and Arcadia getting the most play. Adding to the sonic blast was The Apocalypse DJ providing drumming that was a bit flashy thanks to the lighted hood he wears while performing. The crowd was as into the show as the band was as evident by the amount of singing throughout the evening from the audience on song after song, including a cool cover of Tears For Fears “Mad World.” Here’s hoping the band keeps touring the US and I get another chance to see them in the future.
Setlist: Flow – Wake Up – Glow in the Dark – Big Bang – Let Me Be Your Superhero – Arcadia – All Eyes on You – Out of Here – Running Away From Home – Higher – Broken Parts – Deadman – Vanguard – Forever Alone – Mad World – Heroes Are Calling – Boomerang – Six Feet Under
