World’s First Cinema wasn’t on my radar until their latest EP was brought to my attention.  The sweeping sound of the songs that leaned into and blurred the lines between pop, punk, rock, and EDM struck a chord in me as I typically pull my own daily listening from most of these sources as well.  Disc opener “S.O.S.” is a cool track musically, with huge layered anthemic choruses and solid playing and song construction through the verse.  The overall vibe of the track feels as if it was written and recorded in preparation to play this one live.  Title track “Palm Reader” has a more ethereal feel to it that permeates the song from the onset and carries through as the music and vocals swirl together in the mix.  The drone of the keyboard underneath the vocal is a killer anchor for the track sonically allowing other instrumentation to take the spotlight during the bridges and transitions.  “Holy Water” is a lighter track swimming more in the pop pool than other songs here, but it adds more dimension to the short collections overall feel.  The chorus is cool and floats effortlessly in the mix as the songs ebbs and flows musically.  This is one of the catchier songs here.  “Love You Now” brings a more cinematic feel to the disc with a large opening that seems larger than life and then settles into the pop punk vein coursing through and across the record.  This track seems perfect for radio and mass consumption.  Be sure to hang out for the twist on this one as the disc closes with a beautiful piano and vocal duet on this one that adds to the songs feel and texture.
