Wanted for murder, Charlie and Nao embark on a road trip with a bag of stolen gold and a corrupt cop in hot pursuit. They didn’t murder the guy (well, not exactly), and they don’t know each other, but they are unwittingly bonded together from that moment forth.

Emma Styles has concocted a gripping thriller in NO COUNTRY FOR GIRLS, complete with two very different protagonists in Charlie and Nao, young women from very different sides of the tracks, with very little in common.

Styles adeptly changes perspective from chapter to chapter, mostly showing events as they unfold through either Charlie or Nao’s eyes, along with a few chapters from Charlie’s sister Geen’s viewpoint. It takes a little getting used to, but it’s handled well and provides unexpected extra perspective.

Western Australia is as much a character in No Country For Girls as Charlie, Nao or dirty cop Warren, from the suburbs of Perth to the expanse of the outback where the story climaxes, and Styles makes sure the tension never abates, making it hard to put this one down until it’s done.
