Hatebreed is nearing three decades in the world of hardcore punk, still gaining fans of all ages. The band made a stop in Knoxville, TN on their latest tour and brought Jesus Piece, Vein.fm, and Terror as support. This lineup kept the energy going strong all night, with a large mosh pit churning in the middle of the room for the entire show. It was very refreshing to see a hardcore show in this venue, and both the crowd and security did a great job with keeping things fast, fun, and under control – especially when the room was a sea of crowdsurfers and crowdkillers. Terror’s set was particularly energetic, but everyone saved their energy for Hatebreed’s fast-paced, riff-driven sound. Frontman Jamey Jasta worked the stage, getting crowd interaction and hyping up the chaos. Kids were also scattered and headbanging throughout the crowd and starting their own mini mosh pits. Sound-wise, these guys are at the top of their game and played a set full of old favorites from 1994 and new material. Jasta mentioned frequently throughout the show how much the band has enjoyed Knoxville through their few previous stops, and how they plan to show the city more recognition in the future because of the energy the audience brought. Next year marks the band’s thirty year anniversary and it’s clear that Hatebreed is continuing to encourage hardcore fans and aspiring musicians alike.
