Time after time I review stuff from the Black Veil Brides and every time I remember exactly what it was that drew me in from the first listen. These guys know how to craft songs that will more than please the BVB Army as well as help in recruiting new members / listeners at every turn. This EP is hopefully just a taste of what is to come next from the band. Disc opener “Devil” takes us back to the first couple of releases from the band with heavy handed music swirled with a melodic sound that perfectly supports the piss & vinegar attitude in the lyrics. Be sure to dig in and savor the dual guitars of Jake Pitts & Jinxx as they trade of crunchy licks and hearty riffs. “Saviour II” slows the pace down and lets us get a listen to Andy Biersack’s vocals on this beautiful track. The musical component underneath is a lush sound that swells and moves between verses and chorus just like the tide at the moons peak. The overall vibe of this track feels familiar to other songs in the bands catalog without sounding rehashed. “The Revival” prominently features drummer Christian Coma and bassist Lonny Eagleton from start to finish with the swirling guitars and Biersack’s vocals splattered across the track as well. The bottom end keeps the track flowing while the vocals and guitars create an anthemic vibe that should get hands in the air and heads banging. Closer “Better Angels” in another anthemic rocker that could have been ripped from the many releases across the bands catalog without duplicating the vibe and sound. The bridges and breakdowns are full and have a cool rock texture to them that is accentuated by the soaring guitars. Here’s hoping 2023 brings more music and a US tour for the guys so I can get my fill of them live soon!
