According to a recent press release: “Sygnal To Noise, a melodic hard rock band, was founded in February of 2013 by frontman, Coopa, a singer / songwriter and veteran of the New England music scene. Their mission is to help bring rock ‘n’ roll to modern fans and back to its former glory on mainstream radio once again. Sygnal To Noise has been greatly inspired and influenced by bands like Queen, KISS, Alice Cooper and David Bowie, for their showmanship and visuals with a blend of such bands as Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam for their songwriting and vocal styles. Having the perfect blend of creativity and diverse talent; Breanne ( Breezy ) Powell on Bass, Christopher Skehan on guitar, Dave Pike on guitar and Nick Coffin on drums; and their combined creative process, passion and vision is what pushes their focus and drive for the future of rock ‘n’ roll.” We get guitarist Christopher to collectively discuss new music, influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

There are… On the track “Fathers Talk” We decided to use Coop’s (vocalist and founding member) youngest and oldest daughter in the beginning and again at the end of the track. The youngest “Daddy, I love you more than I can count” and the oldest “thank you for always being there Dad, I love you.” It is a young girl being taught by her dad to watch carefully for the way of the world and then the young girl grows up and is thanking him for the love.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

Listening to my family’s music every Saturday night growing up, it was something I have always known. When I was 8; my father purchased my first guitar for me, and I proceeded to play Bluegrass and Gospel until my love my rock came into my life lol.

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

Absolutely… It’s a combination really, my first live concert was REO Speedwagon which guided me to what I love to do now, however; Queen was my first love..  Watching their live performances was a Holy Crap moment.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

I personally would call in Dave Grohl, why? The way Dave commands a crowd and the love he puts out as well as receives is what we all strive for. It’s all about the love of making music.

5. What is your favorite activity when out of the studio and/or not on tour?  What do you like to do to unwind?

I tend to make my way to any body of water, the relaxation of hearing the ocean water crash into the rocks and beach is such of a majestic visual and well as a soothing sound that would inspire anyone.

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe, or you disagreed with?

Comparisons are great, it shows that they enjoy you enough to put you in one of their favorite genres and category. For someone who has never heard it.. you will most definitely relate to this album.

7. When your band is hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

Lol. I’m usually the one to suggest the acoustics. When we all hang out together there is never a dull moment, we are all family.  We all know who can get the drink on (T.M) ROTFL Dave will break out the grill and cook it up mountain man style.

8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?

I don’t get starstruck easily, I just love people but; I would say in 2019 when I had the opportunity to see P!NK I was pretty tongue tied to say the least lol.

9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?

The best part of being a musician is the fans, looking out and interacting with them and seeing them singing your songs back to you is something that’s extremely phenomenal.  My dream job if not being a musician anymore would have to be something connected with music such as a producer.

10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?

I don’t get tired of the questions, there are some that I get asked all the time, but; typically it’s from a new fan(s) and they deserve the same respect. I believe I have been asked just about everything lol.

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?

I had some other opportunities that I passed on that would have ultimately changed my course but, with every situation there is a new opportunity.  I’m happy I stepped the way I did.

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

As a little girl, my mother introduced me to The Bee Gees and to me the relationship between my mother and them is part of my childhood. To be part of an album, I would have to say, Bohemian Rhapsody. It is such an iconic album that touched so many lives.
