I love coming “home” to The Machine Shop.  Not only is it one of my favorite venues filled with some amazing people employees family, but some of the most fun bands come through time after time and make the venue a regular stop when they can while traversing the country.  Friday night was no different when Nonpoint and The Lonely Ones brought their one-two punch to the world famous venue in Flint, MI.  Kicking the night off was The Lonely Ones who have made a boat load of stops at The Shop over the years in different incarnations and under different band monikers.  The four guys wasted no time and came straight at the sold out crowd that filled the venue before the opening set started.  Song after song, they rocked the house and even delivered a very cool cover of the Queen track and soundtrack cut “Flash” midway through their allotted time.  The energy on stage matched the energy that ebbed and flowed back and forth between the band and the crowd.  There were rockers that got fists in the air and other tracks that had lighters out, but the one thing that was consistent throughout the bands set was the interaction between the band and capacity crowd that sang along with song after song.  The only let down for most in attendance was when the bands time one stage was through and they departed only to mingle with the fans in order to settle in and also enjoy the headlining set that was to come.  After a short stage changeover, the anticipation hit a peak as the lights dimmed and the guys from Nonpoint – Elias Soriano, Robb Rivera, Rasheed Thomas, Adam Woloszyn, and Jaysin Zeilstra – hit the stage and proceeded to give the capacity crowd exactly what they came for… a night of rocking out to familiar songs with friends.  That is exactly how Nonpoint treats every crowd and show – as if they are just hanging with friends and enjoying some great tunes together.  From set opening track “Ruthless” from the bands recent EP of the same name to encore track “Bullet With A Name,” there was no denying the good time quotient in the air.  The EP was featured later in the set when the band delivered the back to back tracks “Back In The Game” and “I Don’t Care” as well as a set closer and Prince cover “When Doves Cry.”  A couple of the bands Top 20 songs were folded into the setlist as they pulled out “Breaking Skin” and a Chad Gray-less “Miracle” with the latter being the second performance of the tune for the evening as it was featured in the sound check during the earlier meet & greet.  The bands debut release was represented by three tracks including the bands first chart single “What A Day,” which was followed by “Victim” and “Orgulla.”  While there were other fans and band favorites peppered into the set, two of my personal favorites helped open and close the set with songs from 2005’s To The Pain – “The Wreckoning” and previously mentioned set closer “Bullet With a Name.”  Nonpoint is one of those shows that might or might not be on your personal must see list, but it should be. Check their tour schedule to find out when they will be at a venue near you.
