The Indianapolis Motor Speedway welcomed back fans to the infield for the first time in three years. The Carb Day concert series starts the three-day weekend of the Indy 500 with classic rock musicians. This year’s performers were Morris Day and the Time, Rick Springfield, and the Kings of Chaos. The days events included practice time for drivers of the 500, a pit crew challenge and the concert for the finale. Rain caused delays on the track, but the concert started pretty much on time. Morris Day got things going with his hits “The Bird” and “Jungle Love.” His act included his trademark mirror to check his look throughout the show. The band from Minneapolis also gave tribute to fellow Minnesotan Prince. The rain came down as Rick Springfield took the stage next. The 80’s heart throb played his hits “Jessie’s Girl”, “Don’t Talk to Strangers”, and “I’ve Done Everything for You”. He did his signature windmill guitar with a bouquet of roses, showering petals across the stage. The day concluded with co-headliner the Kings of Chaos. Members of the supergroup include Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver), Jack Blades (Night Ranger), Gilby Clarke (Gun N’ Roses), Lita Ford (The Runaways, solo), Sean McNabb (Great White, Dokken), John Waite, Sebastian Bach (Skidrow) and Warren Demartini (Ratt). Lita Ford started on vocals with their rendition of “Bitch is Back” as well as her own hit “Kiss Me Deadly.” Jack Blades and Sebastian Bach were next up with “Sister Christian” and “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me.” John Waite performed his hits “Missing You” and “Change.” The night concluded with GNR’s “Paradise City.” It was great to have live music back at the Speedway and the Carb Day lineup was certainly true to its classic roots with a trip back memory lane.
