A power and hit packed tour from R&B and Soul British wonder twins Joss Stone and Corinne Bailey Rae is winding its way through various cities in the US and we lucked out with a date at Clearwater, FL’s Ruth Eckerd Hall.  The evening kicked off with Joss Stone and over the course of the next 75 minutes give or take, she brought the house down with a setlist that included all her hits, fan favorites, and some deep tracks as well.  Hitting the stage in a gown and no shoes and her lush vocal, she was as glamourous and comfortable as you could be and it showed in her smile, her poise and presence, and you could hear it in not only her singing voice, but her banter between songs.  While fans sang along and her band carried us from track to track with a solid performance, the real star of her set was Joss herself.  She was having a blast on stage, and she lifted everyone to join her on the musical journey she had planned for us this evening.  While she embraced and rolled the chaos of the last two years into her performance, her joy shone through on song after song, but more so as she closed out her set with arguably her biggest hit “Right To Be Wrong.”  When she realized the lyric advise us all to “leave… leave her alone…” she backtracked and altered the line so we would all stay to not only be with her, but to catch the next part of the show.

After a 30-minute intermission allowing for a set change, Corinne Bailey Rae rolled onto the stage with her three-piece band and proceeded to pick up the energy when Stone left it and took us across her set with smiles, memories, and more great music.  Her ability to shift from singer to guitar player demonstrated the love of music… not just her stuff, but music in general.  After a couple track allowing her band to set the tone underneath her vocal, she grabbed her Gibson acoustic, and we were off and running.  The vibe of the show was as thick and bluesy as her catalog and watching the crowd dance in their seats, the aisles, and watching them sing along with her was inspiring.  You could feel the energy and good vibes roll from the stage and wash across the venue before returning to the stage creating a give and take between singer and fans that was undeniable.  There were songs unfamiliar to me, but I was in the minority, but there was no denying the power of her smash “Put Your Records On” from the first strains of the track as it cascaded from the venues sound system.  This was a great close to an evening of some amazing soul and R&B performed by two of the best out there doing it these days.  Be sure to check the tour routing and grab tickets when this one lands in a city near year… if you are lucky enough to get the tour routed near you.
