One of the oddest things to experience in the last year has been the transition to being a snowbird – splitting my time between beautiful Lake Huron in Lexington, MI and the wonders of the Gulf of Mexico in Weeki Wachee, FL with the latter spent during the winter months. Knowing Christmas is coming while enjoying a slightly humid walk through a bayou after an 80* day is still foreign to me. Celebrate Christmas with palm trees, no snow, and really warm temps… odd to sat the least, but I will manage. Adding to the fun was a visit to Enchant Tampa. This Christmas experience is currently taking over Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL while we all await more baseball in the spring. Purchase two tickets – check. Ice skating? Purchase skating upgrade – check. Invite family in the area to enjoy a pre-holiday outing – check. On a Thursday night we all made out way into the arena and were instantly transported to a Christmas village with lights and structures as far as the eyes could see. What is that I see to the left? Real live ice skating inside the venue. To the right?? Santa awaits visitors young and old with twinkles in their eyes and a wish list on the tip of their tongue. In between is a cool maze put together by a mischievous elf that gives you one entrance but quickly offers up three options to choose. The goal of the maze? Fight the 8 missing toys. My personal favorite was Cali’s Bear. Don’t forget the skating… while there may be more familiarity with skates and ice back home in Michigan, the joy and thrill of being on ice and circling another display wasn’t lost on anyone that braved it and strapped on a pair of skates. This experience is for the young, the young at heart, and those that just want to experience some joy during this hectic season. As you enjoy the light displays and set ups, be sure to take in the various food and drink vendors that include a lot of food options and some great drink choices – kids friendly and adult enticing – to help put you in a seasonal mood. Wander to your hearts content as see some of the coolest decorations including wrapped gifts, balls for decorating, a huge tree, some cool walk throughs, and so much more. I can’t say enough about the experience except that I cannot wait to experience this once again next year. The event is open through the holidays and into the new year.
