It’s hard to believe it’s been over 30 years since 311 hit the scene out of Omaha Nebraska. They have released 13 studio albums since, 2 going platinum and 2 gold. Their Greatest Hits ’93-’03 was also certified platinum. Their alt/reggae rock unique style has certainly stood the test of time. It started as a perfect evening for a show, with seasonal temperatures reminding us that Fall is approaching. Opening acts Iration and Iya Terra got things started as the crowd slowly stumbled in following the long Holiday weekend. The sun had just disappeared as storm clouds rolled in. With lightning in the distance, 311 was moved up 30 minutes to allow them to play a full set. The stage went dark and pulsing lights gleamed as the band taking their place. They kicked things off with “Come Original.” Nick Hexum and Doug “SA” Martinez proved age is just a number as their energy exceeded guys half their age. Chad Sexton’s Drum solo showed why he is listed on Pearl Drums top artists. Their percussion ensemble during “Applied Science” was another highlight as they tossed drumsticks to one another never missing a beat. Aaron “P-Nut” Wills showed off his sick skills on a bass throughout the night. Tim Mahoney’s bluesy guitar riffs and head banging antics were a crowd favorite. They concluded the evening with their smash hit “Down” as the crowd jumped up and down. It was a great show and nice escape as we start off the workweek.
Setlist: Come Original – Prisoner – Do You Right – Time Bomb – Beautiful Disaster – All Mixed Up – Don’t Stay Home – One and the Same – Beyond the Gray Sky – Sunset in July – Applied Science – Too Late – Amber – Lucky – Creatures (For a While) – Down
