Lindsey Stirling released the highly anticipated Artemis record in late 2019 with a huge tour booked for 2020. I think we all know how that turned out… but here we are in 2021 finally able to check out the new material, as well as tracks from her catalog, in a live situation. With no opener to set the tone, it was up to Ms. Stirling to come out swinging. That is exactly what she did. Set opener was the most recent releases title track “Artemis” and it caught your attention sonically and visually. Between the violin playing, the lights, the dancing, and the video screen activity, this was a pleasant attack on the eyes and ears. The music was perfectly played and the smile on Lindsey’s face could not be faked as she played, danced, moved, and interacted with the audience through her body language. Next up was the one-two punch of “Til the Light Goes Out” and “Darkside” which were two different songs musically and visually, but worked perfectly together to keep the energy up, the music flowing, and the smiles on faces both on stage and in the crowd. Hell, even us photographers were getting into the show. The set featured tracks from each of her studio releases (except her debut EP and her Christmas album), with nine of the evenings numbers coming from the 2019 disc. The different songs swirled together perfectly and help give us a glimpse at where she began and where she is headed. The real treat for audience members young and old was the Disney medley that hit the set near the halfway point of the evening, giving us all a moment to let everything fade away and just be a kid for a few moments. This was my first Lindsey Stirling show, but I can promise you this, it will not be my last. The show has something for everyone from all genres of music to different ages. Stirling’s use and grasp of her instrument was flawless as is her ability to combine the classic sound of the violin with the modern pop sound creating a cool fusion sound that is just plain fun to listen to. Job well done Lindsey – you made a believer out of this rocker!
