1. The Hold Steady – Almost Killed Me

The most blazing punk rock debut since Never Mind the Bollocks. Modern American bar-rock punk with so much attitude and punch. I couldn’t listen to anything else for a year. It still gives me tingles 10 years later. The album of the 00’s for me, it renewed my faith in rock n’ roll, big time.

2. Sex Pistols – Never Mind the Bollocks

This record changed my life, made me fall in love with music, and dictated who I became. Without this record it’s possible there may be no Screamfeeder. I heard it at 11 years old and it’s part of who I am to this day.

3. Husker Du – Zen Arcade

In the 80’s punk started getting lost. But these guys rescued it and pushed it to new and amazing extremes. Punk could be fast and furious, but insightful, psychedelic and pop-drenched at the same time. Another total game-changer and lifetime influence for me.

4. Swervedriver – Ejector Seat Reservation

There’s a lot of 90’s stuff that sounds pretty shit now, dated and try-hard. This still sounds effortless, mysterious and wonderful. I was captivated by this around the time Kitten Licks came out. Their melodies are a big influence on Screamfeeder, I think we’re all in love with this album. We saw them play at sunset on a summer evening on a rooftop in Fitzroy around 1998, it was totally magical.

5. Muscles – Guns, Babes, Lemonade

This album is so beautiful. Heavily edm, but really it’s a pop record. It’s so kooky and weird, but the lyrics are great and you can just tell he’s passionate about every word. All the songs are killer, there’s no duds – it’s just exploding with love and fun.
