THE TREWS RELEASE YOUR NEW FAVOURITE SONG – I WANNA PLAY
By Shane Pinnegar
If there’s one thing that every single music fan and musician knows after a year of rolling lockdowns and restrictions and cancelled tours, it’s that we need a bloody good rock and roll show, no matter where we are in the world.
Canadian rockers The Trews have managed to articulate that in their latest single – which is probably your new favourite tune – I Wanna Play.
The video features a starring turn by record producer, harmonica player and sound engineer Bob Lanois – the brother of Daniel Lanois, also a producer and musician – filmed shortly before his passing on 19th April, 2021. Fittingly, The Trews have dedicated the video for I Wanna Play to him.
Lanois plays a janitor at an empty ice hockey arena that the band sneak past to set up and play on the rink, in this quintessentially Canadian clip.
Perfectly summing up our collective feelings of longing for the electricity and atmosphere of a live rock n’ roll show, I Wanna Play is head and shoulders above most of the by now ubiquitous ‘pandemic lockdown songs’ which we are currently being barraged by, it even features a guitar solo tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen!
If you can’t get out and see a band right now, at least you can turn this up and relive the excitement as best you can, because if there is one thing I know right now – we all wanna play.
