A Dirty Dozen with ROBERT CORBINO from MIDNIGHT FOOLISHNESS – February 2020

| 9 February 2020 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “The quartet, fronted by Robert Corbino, took the Brooklyn, NY underground punk scene by storm, attracting locals with their provocative lyrics and a sound reminiscent of early 00’s Pop-Punk and 90’s Grunge. They finished their first EP, The Sinners, in 2014 and began touring the United States. After a year of touring, they took to the studio where they worked with Shawn Christmas of Chango Studios. In November 2016, they released their first album Use Your Head, Not Your Hands.”  We get frontman Robert to discuss new music, influences, and much more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

If you listen to the lyrics you find cool things. You will see it tie into each other more on the next record. The song “Eminem vs Necro” is a title that comes from wanting to see my two favorite rappers battle!!!

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I have always wanted to play guitar in a band. I played my first show at 12 years old at the old Lamours in Brooklyn. Ever since then I have been wanting to play in a band and tour!

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

I have always like Kevin Devine of the Miracle of 86. Kevin Devine is also my favorite singer.

4. Who would be your main five musical influences?

Blink 182, Green Day, Miracle of 86, Taking back Sunday, and Emmure. To sum it up all of these bands are my favorite!

5. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

Frank from Emmure. I’ve been lucky enough to see him record. His voice is amazing! It always sounds perfect.

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

Its pop/punk/emo and hard rock sometimes! The future of pop/punk Alternative Rock.

7. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

The best thing is playing live. I love to play live. Everyone in the band does. The more people the better!

8. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

No one cooks, we all drink sometimes. No one does sing alongs. That would not go well in Brooklyn! But we like to Eat mostly healthy food. We do like Arbys though!

9. When was the last time you were star struck and who was it?

Never. We have met everyone from Hatebreed to Dance Gavin Dance to Ringo Starr. We think everyone is equal and not above anyone ever. It’s about friendship and music!

10. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

I would be a basketball player! I’ve always wanted to play in the NBA!

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”, even if it didn’t change your current situation?

We were offered big deals years ago. We were not able to take. Can’t say to much more on that.

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

Nevermind by Nirvana! I would love to play something on that record. It is one of my favorites !!! Who wouldn’t want to right?
