There’s not much Robert Greenberger doesn’t know about the iconic caped crusader of Gotham City, and here he compiles his list of 100 Greatest Moments spanning the 80-year history of the much-loved DC Comics character.
One of the highlights of this lavish, hard bound, full colour coffee table book is seeing how the art of Batman has changed over eight decades. Many have drawn the superhero in that time, of course, starting with creator Bob Crane, and along the way Greenberger reminds us of not only Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego, but also the villians, sidekicks, love interests, gadgets and vehicles. That’s a helluva lot to take in.
Greenberger indisputably knows his stuff, as mentioned, but he also has a tendency to write a little too “fan boy”. It’s nothing a good editor couldn’t have rectified, but sometimes his text grates. It’s a minor issue, of course, and there is much to love in these 300-plus pages. As well as a great tome for long-time fans, this can also serve as an excellent crash course in the life of Batman.
