Playing to a packed house. The beginning of the evening started with Nu-Folk Rebel Alliance taking the stage. This Clash tribute band tapped into a very Mescaleros vibe and got the party started early. Their covers of Janie Jones and Straight to Hell are by far some of the best covers I have heard performed live. Once Gogol Bordello hit the stage the crowd was already dancing and in full party mode.
Playing hits from the past 20 years Gogol didn’t disappoint. From the first song “Through the Roof” onwards; it got the crowd moving and it didn’t stop until the show was over. Near the end of their first set, Gogol Bordello broke out a very impressive cover of Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel”. Various other songs played to the highly energized crowd were “Start Wearing Purple”, “Wonderlust King”, “Immigrant Punk”, and followed up with two encores and ultimately ending the night with “Undestructable”.
Gogol Bordello is always a party and I encourage everyone to catch them live if they can.
Setlist: Through the Roof ‘n’ Underground – I Would Never Wanna Be Young Again – Not a Crime – Immigrant Punk – Saboteur Blues – My Companjera – Alcohol – Rebellious Love – Trans-Continental Hustle – Immigraniada (We Comin’ Rougher) – Passport – Heartbreak Hotel – When the Trickster Starts A-Poking (Bordello Kind of Guy) – Start Wearing Purple – Sally – Wonderlust King – Sun Is on My Side – Think Locally, Fuck Globally – Undestructable
