WOW! What a show to rock Charlotte, NC! When I first heard about Nothing More headlining a show I knew it was a show that couldn’t be missed. Special guests included Palisades, Badflower, and Of Men & Mice. Once Palisades took the stage and began their set to kick the night off the fans energy sparked instantly. Watching from the distance I was very impressed with this band as this was the first time I had ever seen them live. Next, Badflower… Now, I have seen this band preform numerous times and I must say this was the best performance by them yet. Lead singer, Josh Katz, interacted with his fans with having the venue sing along to hits like “Ghost” and “Heroin”. The band did majority of their songs from the debut studio album OK, IM SICK. When Of Men and Mice took the stage I was a little worried about seeing them without previous front man Austin Carlile; this was the first time seeing them without Austin. This band is definitely the definition of metalcore. The crowd carried the energy from the opening bands straight to them. It was nothing more than exciting and exhilarating. Kicking the show off with songs like “Defy”, “Would You Still Be There”, and “Warzone”. Covering all the vocals now is bassist Aaron Pauley. He delivered both hard and clean vocals that intrigued the fans. Lead guitarist, Phil Manansala, showed up with a insanely trippy colored guitar that had the crowd starring it down for the vibrant colors along with the crazy riffs that he was killing along with nice solos. Every single note these guys played created more and more energy to set up headlining band Nothing More which took the stage over right at 9:28pm.
As soon as Johnny Hawkins and his crew came on and the curtain dropped and the crowd went WILD. They kicked the show off with hit “Let ‘Em Burn.” The amount of crowd surfing was intense while being in the photo pit for my first time ever. I felt like I was dodging bullets from all the crowd surfers coming across! Johnny delivered his iconic vocals that blew me away. To the right of him was his killer bassist Daniel Oliver who nailed every note and bass line without breaking a sweat. Left of Johnny, lead guitarist Mark Vollelunga, slayed every note. He was feeling the vibe Charlotte brought and was jumping around with his guitar and killing every riff and solo that came up. Behind Johnny was the drummer Ben Anderson. Being a drummer myself, the kit he played was beautiful. Ben always shows up to do business and he did just that slaying every drum fill asked of him. We even got a Queen cover of “We Will Rock You” – the crowd loved it as we knew the time we had left to see Nothing More was coming to a end; they closed the show out with song “Salem (Burn The Witch)”. Once the show was over the crowd hated to head home, because this show was one for the books.
