Two near-perfect slices of jangly power pop may not be enough to change the world, but it’s the perfect recipe to brighten up almost six minutes of an overcast day.

A project featuring singer/guitarist and well-known advocate of the power of a jangly guitar, Joe Algeri, alongside fellow guitarist and former schoolmate Paul Colombini, The Outryders have enlisted rhythm section Herb Eimerman and Mark ‘Sid’ Eaton for this, their third single.

With hearts and minds firmly rooted in the ‘80s and ‘90s glory days of power pop, these two tracks harken back to the classic Sunnyboys and Stems sound – a garage pop aesthetic as seen through the prism of paisley shirt-wearing Oz pubs.

That means hyper-catchy melodies, glorious hooks that reel you in from the first riff and have you singing along with Algeri by the second chorus. It means lush harmony vocals (Algeri’s daughters Lydia and Hanna both help out on Should Have Known), handclaps and a bright, sunshiney feel that stays with you long after the disc has finished. It means you should buy this – everyone’s day deserves to be brightened.
