All fans of books – which should include everyone, alright – will relish the sensation of reading about a meal enjoyed or prepared by the characters that are so engaging them in that moment, and feeling as if we can almost taste the food ourselves, aromas and flavours seemingly wafting from the crisp pages and cold lettering by some form of sorcery.

Kate Young has taken an idea so simple – a recipe collection based on dishes from literature – and turned it into a gorgeous, heavy volume that is a treat to read, drool over, and make oneself.

From Paddington Bear’s famous marmalade to steak and onions straight from the pages of Graham Greene’s The End Of The Affair, or rice and miso soup with pickled vegetables and fried egg, as featured in Haruki Murakami’s Norwegian Wood, this is a delightful collection of substance and whimsy for young and old.
