Fremantle to host a giant dose of rock n’ roll with BONFEST, Feb 2018

February 2018 marks the 38th Anniversary of the passing of rock legend, AC/DC lead vocalist and Fremantle local hero, Bon Scott. It is also the 10th anniversary of the Bon Scott Statue installation, made possible by the generous donations of Bon Scott fans worldwide.

To mark the occasion, BONFEST Freo – A Giant Dose of Rock ‘n’ Roll, will bring together musicians and music fans across the globe in a month long festival climaxing in a four-day weekend celebration of the musical legacy of Bon Scott. Taking place February 15 – 18, 2018 in beautiful Fremantle, Western Australia – the resting place of Bon Scott.

AC/DC and Bon Scott fans – tick some big items off your bucket list (the Bon Scott Statue, Bon’s resting place in Fremantle Cemetery and a Highway to Hell Tour of other iconic Fremantle landmarks) and get along to BONFEST Freo – A Giant Dose of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The Main Event will be held on Saturday 17th February 2018 billed as ‘Jailbreak Concert – A Whole Lotta Pipers’ this concert is unique being a Guinness World Record attempt for the ‘Largest Bagpipe Ensemble’ to perform It’s a Long Way to The Top.

The current Guinness World Record is 333 bagpipers. Under instructions from the GWR company the tune It’s a Long Way to The Top will be rescored to ensure that the bagpipers are performing for a full 5 minutes to qualify to break the record, the updated bagpipe recital will be made available shortly.

BONFEST Freo is putting out the call for bagpipers – Local, Australian and International – to participate in a Guinness World Record attempt for Largest Bagpipe Ensemble.

The Jailbreak Concert, featuring outstanding artists performing with Raise the Flag – The Biggest Ball Crushing Salute to Australian Hard Rock!

Founded in 2008 by renowned Rogue Sharks guitarist Mick Adkins, his close friend, entrepreneurial music enthusiast Keirran Downham and the valuable assistance of others, the band has performed across the country playing pubs, clubs and outdoor events as well as private and corporate shows.

With a rotation of members based on their individual availability, the line-up has consistently included past and/or present members of iconic Australian Rock bands such as Rose Tattoo, The Angels, The Screaming Jets and even AC/DC! The band has also featured members of Baby Animals, Diesel, Skyhooks and The Poor.

Including hit songs from the bands, Raise the Flag’s set include tracks from Billy Thorpe, Australian Crawl, Cold Chisel, Easybeats and Choirboys. More recently due to the inclusion of hits from The Divinyls and Baby Animals, the band has recruited the incomparable talents of Rose Carleo from Sydney’s Rose Carleo Band.

Raise the Flag – Australian Hard Rock – Loud & Proud!!

Special guests on the evening will be none other than Mark Evans – ex AC/DC bass player alongside Bon Scott, Angry Anderson and Dai Pritchard, Bob Spencer – Skyhooks & The Angels, and on drums John Watson from Australian Crawl – the new line-up of the mighty Rose Tattoo.

The Jailbreak Concert – A Whole Lotta Pipers is a family friendly event, doors open at 6pm with the event being wound up by 10pm in Fremantle (venue to be announced soon).

The highlight to the festival will be a Remembering Bon Scott Luncheon held on Friday 16th February 2018 at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle’ Indian Ocean Suite function room. Guests are invite to be part of an afternoon walking down memory lane reminiscing about the life and times of Rock ‘n’ Roll Legend and Fremantle’s most famous son Bon Scott.

Join us for a Seated Three Course Buffet Luncheon with Special Guest Speaker Dave Stevens – son of Bon Scott and other dignitaries and Entertainment between 12noon till 3pm. Then afterwards will be a book signing opportunity by a few of Bon Scott’ friends and authors. On the day you will hear many amusing stories about Bon from the people who really knew him.
