The final show of Kid Rock’s Detroit home stand at the brand new Little Caesar’s arena was full of fun, energy, excitement, killer music, and so much more. Once you waled through the venue and adapted to a new place and took in the excitement of seeing the newest Detroit venue that will host hockey, basketball, and concerts, tonight was all about the closing show from the one and only Kid Rock. With a catalog full of classics and gems alike, the musician has recently released some new music that would be heard by some for the first time tonight. Strap yourselves in folks… this is about to be a killer ride full of twists, turns, and a shitload of fun.
The wait seemed to take forever while waiting for Kid Rock to kick off the final show of a triumphant home stand that kicked open the doors on Detroit’s newest venue. With music blasting through the sound system and fans milling around waiting for the lights to dim, you couldn’t help but get caught up in the excitement that pulsed through the air. And without any thought, the lights went out and the venue went nuts. After a short intro video and music interlude, we were off and running – with a brand new song “Greatest Show on Earth” to lead the charge. This song set the bar and the pace for the rest of the evening. This was truly going to be one of the greatest shows around… with lights, explosions, an actual group of circus acts parading across the stage throughout the opening track. Once the lights cut out after this track, we were welcomed to a speech from Rock that seemed to drive further the thoughts of political aspirations for the performer. After getting that out of the way, we were treated to a killer one-two punch of “You Never Met a Motherfucker Quite Like Me” and “American Bad Ass” that kicked everything up a notch, helping Kid Rock deliver the type of show his fans have come to expect. As always, a few covers showed up int eh set, but a first for me was Rock’s take on the Rod Stewart classic “Maggie May” which had all the finesse and power of the original. Two of my personal favorites, “Rock And Roll Jesus” and “Cocky”, showed up in the set and got me singing and dancing in my seat!. After a couple big hits were tossed into the nights festivities (“All Summer Long” and “Cowboy”), the crowd heard the second of two new tracks – “Po-Dunk.” The latest young set of Kid Rock protege’s Sweet Tea Trio joined him on stage for “Good Time Lookin’ for Me” while long time alumni Uncle Kracker joined the band for two tracks including the Dobie Gray tune “Drift Away.” One thing Rock has always done is entertain and tonight was no exception, as he made his way from singer to DJ to drummer and guitarist as DJ Bobby Shazam demonstrated his abilities to everyone in attendance. Other killer songs were in the setlist, but no Kid Rock show is complete without the sounds of “Batwitdaba” rolling through the speakers and across the packed venue, drawing in every fan – new and old – that showed up tonight. Truly a spectacle to see live, don’t miss the Kid Rock tour that rolls through various cities still in 2017 as well as dates that are sure to populate the mans 2018 calendar… I know I will be there for another show or two next summer concert season.
