In This Moment brought their Half God Half Devil tour to the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga, which was a real treat for fans. It was my first time visiting the theatre, which is a beautiful, ornate 1920s era venue that looks like the perfect setting for the Nutcracker or a symphony orchestra. Naturally, it was a great fit for In This Moment. (However, the seats were a slight inconvenience for those who wanted to crowd surf or mosh).
The opening act for the show was Little Miss Nasty. They are a heavy metal burlesque show that got the crowd excited for what they will do next. Their first act was somewhat short, but they came back again later for an intermission between Motionless in White and In This Moment. Their sets were sexy, fun, and featured plenty of rock and metal hits that got everyone singing along.
Next up was Vimic. The band features six members, including former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison. He was definitely a big draw from the crowd (a random guy even started a “MOTHERFUCKIN’ DRUM SOLO!” chant for a while). The band was exactly what I expected — plenty of long hair and guitars with Jordison’s recognizable drumming. They performed their big singles like “She Sees Everything,” “My Fate,” and “Simple Skeletons.”
MIW’s set was very different from the other acts in the show so far. They brought plenty of spooky surprises, including a very appropriate Halloween-themed stage setup. Their set was mainly newer material including “Eternally Yours,” “Loud (Fuck It),” and “Reincarnate.” Chris Motionless riled up the crowd several times to make sure the seats wouldn’t limit any efforts to have fun. My main complaint was that MIW didn’t play longer.
After a short intermission, In This Moment took the stage. Maria Brink has brought the best aspects of previous tours and combined them with new material. The band played the usual hits like “Blood,” “Adrenalize,” and “Whore.” They also mixed in some brand new songs from their new album Rituals. They included “River of Fire,” “Lay Your Gun Down” and the radio hit “Oh Lord.” The best of the new songs was “Black Wedding,” which featured Chris Motionless from Motionless in White. On the album, the song actually features Rob Halford (of Judas Priest fame) but Chris Motionless did the song justice. The chorus is similar to “White Wedding” by Billy Joel, so it was stuck in my head for a while after the show. ITM’s stage setup was what you’d expect if you’ve seen them before, but my favorite moment of the show was the encore. Maria stood on her pulpit with the iconic WHORE hat and addressed the crowd teacher-style. By the end of the song, the room was filled with massive balloons that fell from the ceiling. Definitely a big ending to a spectacular show. Overall, any fans who are hoping to catch ITM on the Half God Half Devil tour will be wowed by the visuals and treated to great new music. I honestly love the theme of Rituals more than Black Widow. The supporting acts helped build the anticipation, while also showcasing plenty of talent.
