If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Purpendicular certainly aren’t shy about expressing their adoration of Deep Purple.

Apparently a popular Deep Purple tribute act in Europe, they have nailed the ‘80s era sound of the heavy rock masters, especially the organ-guitar-vocals interplay.

Which is not to say this is pure replication: more, these eleven originals are inspired by Purple’s classic sound, with Purpendicular talented enough to use that as a base point from which to leap off in different directions.

Irish singer Robbie Thomas Walsh, who founded the band in 2007, is far from a Gillan impersonator – there are many tonal similarities, but overall his voice has a more gravelly quality, and on Trouble Man he even veers into Ozzy territory. Walsh co-wrote most of the material with guitarist Herbert Bucher.

Testament to their skills and popularity, none other than Ian Paice guests on the album, playing on Wonderful, along with ex-Rainbow Hammond player Tony Carey.
