10 Quick Ones with ZEB CHRISTENSEN from SCREAMING FOR SILENCE – June 2017

| 22 June 2017 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “Screaming for Silence have announced tour dates in support of their new, independent release titled House of Glass due out on July 28, 2017. The House of Glass Tour will kick off on the same day, July 28th in Ames, Iowa at DG’s Taphouse and conclude on August 19th in Omaha, Nebraska. The band will premiere the lyric video for the first single off of the release, currently at radio, and also titled “House of Glass” on today!” We get singer Zeb Christensen  to answer our 10 Quick Ones about the new release, their influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

The thing I love about this release is that it’s a little different than our prior release.  Going into the studio we didn’t want to do the same things we did over again. So we took what we liked from that album and went off of that but tried to change it up.  I think once the EP comes out people will be a little surprised to hear the difference.  There was one part where people thought there was an “F” Bomb but its actually not.  You have to listen really close to be able to tell!

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I always loved to sing. No matter what I was doing.  Mostly in the car and it got really annoying to people when I was younger.  I’m hoping now they look back and think “Oh now that really makes sense”.  I really got into it when i started to go to live shows.  I wanted that Thrill of cutting loose in front of a crowd.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

Corey Taylor, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Jacoby Shaddix, and Chester Bennington

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

I would say Corey Taylor.  In my eyes he is kind of the jack of all trades from going Metal with Slipknot to a little more melody with Stone Sour and can also just jam an acoustic set anywhere or anytime!

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

I consider it right down the middle.  I really feel like we have a song for everyone in our music.  Even if the music isn’t their genre I think they could relate to something in the lyrics.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

My favorite part is getting to say all the different parts of the country.  Also to hear so many different bands.  We  love music so getting to hear new bands at shows is a huge perk!

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

Tyler our tour manager used to do all of the cooking.  He retired so now we just starve on the road or be forced to eat corn dogs. Also Matt gets all the Zimas in and plays the acoustic at the same time!!

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

I would want to be a backup punter in the NFL.  You get paid to go to games and kick a ball around before the game then just enjoy it from the sideline. HAHA

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

Honestly I don’t think so.  I think every step whether it was right or wrong has put us right where we are and I’m just fine with that.  We still learn something new every time we go out on the road.  Just when you think you have it all figured out something gets thrown at us that is a new obstacle.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

I would want to go back and sit in on the recording of Iowa by Slipknot.  I heard crazy stories about how those guys got them selves motivated to record.  That album just turned out so brutal.  I love it. Plus being from Iowa it something that always reminds me of home. Which is pretty weird haha.
