Angry Anderson needs no introduction: Rose Tattoo frontman and mainstay, the pint-sized ball of energy assembled a great band for a short run of West Aussie dates. The rock legend took to the small Canning Vale Market City Tavern stage with Tatts guitarist Dai Pritchard, bassist Mark Gale, and none other than local legends Yak Sherritt on drums, and another Rose Tattoo alumni in guitarist John Meyer.
This being the third show of their run, the band were firing on all cylinders, and the interplay between Pritchard and Meyer was a joy to hear. Sherritt, of course, was on fire – the man has played for Innocent Bystanders, Johnny Diesel & the Injectors, Jimmy Barnes and Richard Clapton.
The band tore through a great selection of classic Tatts like Nice Boys, Rock n’ Roll Is King, We Can’t Be Beaten, Bad Boy For Love, Rock n’ Roll Outlaw, some choice Rolling Stones and a few other covers. If there was a disappointment it was not using Meyer’s presence as an excuse to play more of the Southern Sons album material for which he was a member of Rose Tattoo.
That’s a minor quibble though, and the black t-shirted throng lapped up everything Angry & Co threw at them with relish, wrapping the show up at the entirely appealing Sunday Session time of 7:45. What a great evening!
