New music seems to flood my inbox during tax season, so weeding the material based on the drone of music while preparing returns helps me determine which discs warrant some time to review and the latest EP from I Fight Fail fit into that category. Opening with the spoken word “Voyages & Vantage Points” I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, as this didn’t really grab my attention at all. “Are You Okay” kicked in and its pop-punk hybrid sound grew on me quickly, especially at the chorus. The sound of the track is catchy and gets the foot tapping in direct contrast to the opening vibe of the short disc. “Anything At All” is a bit more ethereal compared to the previous track, but the guitar sound is strung together nicely in this song. The vocals are a bit subdued, but are repetitive enough to get you singing. “Revive The Expired” is another track that gets your attention thanks to the pop-feel woven into it. The guitars on this song sit nicely against the vocals and help buoy the song through a chorus and verse that seem mismatched on the surface. “Nisi Pellis Nostra (SOS)” is a moodier piece that brings a darker feel to the short collection, but it works within the confines of the tracks on this disc. The guitars and keyboards work together weaving a specific sound while the vocals dance across the top. Closer “Out Of Oblivion” wraps the small package up with a song that leans heavier into the moody rock from other songs on the disc, but the punchy guitars and vocals on the chorus keep this song fresh and takes us out on a high note.
