Fear Factory returned to Perth in support of their latest release Genexus after missing out on the West last tour, due to being a Soundwave touring event. It was good to have such a quality band return to Western Australia now that Soundwave is no longer around.

Having seen Fear Factory countless times over the years in various line-ups I have to say tonight was possibly the best I had seen them.

This tour saw the band ask the fans to vote for the songs they wanted in the set, which resulted in a powerhouse set from start to finish!

Opening with the one-two punch of De-manufacture and Self Bias Resistor, the band had the Perth faithful up for it from the get-go.

The band played a great selection of songs from the Obsolete and Digimortal albums next, in Shock, Edgecrusher, What Will Become? and Damaged.

When the band went into the new album material it really opened up the sound.
Soul Hacker was just pure awesome – and only one of the many highlights.

Burton C Bell’s vocals were really on form, especially in new material such as Regenerate and Anodised, songs that work so well alongside the older material.

Poor guitarist Dino Cazares had to sit through the entire gig due to a foot injury (what’s with rockstars getting foot injuries lately?) but it didn’t affect the energy one bit, with Bell having the ability to galvanize the Perth audience to the task at hand.

Newest member, bassist Tony Campos, fitted into the line-up nicely – if he looked familiar, you just need to look at his credentials, having played in bands such as Static X and Soulfly.

A welcome addition to the set was Resurrection off the Obsolete album, a track that had the Perth crowd in full voice.

Fear Factory finished the night strongly, going back to debut record Soul Of A New Machine with Martyr and Scapegoat pleasing the old school fans, before smashing out the double kick assault of Replica to leave the punters happy.

What a set! How could you argue with it?

As always, Burton C Bell declared that Fear Factory will be back, and as a fan so will I. Why? Because Fear Factory give you your money’s worth, a great back catalogue of material and they really know how to craft a set to repay the loyalty of those that come back each time to see them.
