Boy From the Crowd are Vinny Piana, who writes the tunes, produces the music, and plays guitar, bass and keys as well as singing, and drummer/percussionist Vegas Ivy, who hail from north London and have cooked up a wild mixture of rocking music styles on this five-track EP, their debut.

Assured and experimental, oozing with attitude and swagger, and never content to cram less than a few intriguing structures and tones and vibes into each song, it’s hard to know where to start describing Boy From The Crowd.

What we do know is that French-born Piana has form touring Europe with some lesser-known bands, and met ‘Voodoo drummer’ Ivy, instantly forging a bond which resulted in this revelatory EP.

Throughout these five tracks we can hear the influence of The Clash, Nick Cave, surf guitar, Western soundtracks, dirty blues, savagely raw rock, all tempered with fine songcraft and – YES – rock n’ fucking roll attitude in spades, right down to the hand-written note on the EP sleeve declaring “one of the things that makes rock n’ roll great is the little imperfections and riding on the edge of disaster, knowing full well that any second it could all just fall apart.”
