There aren’t many bands that I track and see as often as possible, but Cheap Trick is one of those bands – from the first time I heard them back in 1978 and the first time I saw them in 1979 opening for KISS at the Pontiac Silverdome, I have been a fan of these rockers.  Through their shifts in personnel and the changing face and sound of rock ‘n’ roll over the years, these guys have stayed true to who they are as a band.  When these legends announced their appearance at the 2015 installment of the Arts, Beats, & Eats Festival, I knew I would have to be there to witness another classic show full of classic rockers, ballads, covers, and even a new track.  As Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen, Tom Petersson, and Dax Nielsen took the stage, the crowds adrenaline levels increased dramatically.  Ripping through a new song to start the show, the band set the stage for a night that would unmistakably belong to Cheap Trick.  Each member was given their time to shine, whether it was Robin’s killer vocals, Rick’s phenomenal guitar work, Tom’s prowess on bass, or Dax’s thunderous drumming, the band brought everything they had to give, and they left it on the stage this evening.  Hearing the classic tracks the band has written or covered over the years was a stroll through rock history and took many fans back to the first time they heard the band and brought them full circle with “Bang Zoom Crazy Hello.”  The band, so sure of their abilities and sound even invited a Beatles-tribute band on stage to help perform “Magical Mystery Tour.”  This was a night of quality rocking and good times, as the band tor through the biggest hits in their catalog and gave the capacity crowd exactly what they came for!!!  If you haven’t seen the band recently, you may want to correct that; these guys are in top form and as strong as ever…  I cannot wait until they unleash the full disc of new material they have ready for us and the tour that will hopefully follow!!!
