Avengers - Age Of Ultron poster

If you have been listening to my weekly audio show lately, you will know that I am a bit of a geek. Not only am I a geek, but a geek that has been singing the praises of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a huge way.

With Age of Ultron, Marvel has continued their winning ways. Not only does this movie serve as a sequel to the first Avengers movie, it also manages to continue storylines from the four main characters stand-alone films and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D television series, plus introduce several new characters, AND begin to lay the ground work for future entries in the cinematic universe.

It is truly brilliant how the writers, film makers and even the cast bring this universe together at all, let alone the fact that they do it so well!

Robert Downey Jnr is exceptional as Tony Stark/Iron Man as usual, and while all of the cast play their roles perfectly, the absolute stand out stars in my opinion, are James Spaders portrayal of the main antagonist Ultron, and Paul Bettanys turn as The Vision.

The way that Joss Whedon is able to give direction to such a large cast, is a testament to his abilities. He never underutilises any one character, making sure that everyone is used when, and for as long as they need to be, and always serving the story, rather than simply putting another face on the screen for me to geek out to.

One highlight of the movie for me is that they have taken Hawkeye and made his lack of an iron suit and his lack of super strength, his overall humanity, to be one of the greatest strengths of the Avengers team.

I could honestly talk about this movie and the marvel cinematic universe for hours on end. There is so much to get excited about, and if you have the time, I would recommend watching all of it in order. If you don’t have the time, each movie will work as a stand-alone, or as its own individual series. My mind was blown when at the end of the episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D before the movies release, one of the final lines was “It’s time to send in the Avengers”, and the first episode after the movies release, dealt with the aftermath of the events of Age of Ultron. The people involved really do have it planned down to the minute.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is a big flashy movie, full of great action. It’s well written, very well acted and directed and will give children and adults almost two and a half hours of pure enjoyment.

I highly recommend it for all!
