You never know what you are going to get when someone walks away from the music business for a short period and then returns… especially when that return is to a Vegas residency. With Shania Twain, the world’s best-selling female country artist of all time, you get a killer show full of hits, great times, and a dazzling performance. Her return, as captured for this video demonstrates the power of her performance and the reason for her continued popularity. The show has interludes and moments of showmanship from the additional performers and band members, allowing Shania to make some wardrobe changes as well as reconstructing the stage from time to time.
Opening with a cool equine-cycle delivering Ms. Twain to the stage, you know this show is going to rock and excite. The songs are fresh and crisp – not sounding dated at all… I mean some of these songs are twenty years old. Shania and her stage mates move through each song and set, with precision choreography and musicianship that enhances the performers legacy, as well as preparing her fans for the upcoming tour. Pulling songs from three of her four discs, avoiding older material from her self-titled debut, Twain performed nine tracks from her biggest selling album Come On Over. Mixing in five songs from The Woman In Me and a couple songs from her last studio effort Up, there was a broad range of tracks and styles that graced the setlist for this show. Adding a couple other tracks, “I Ain’t No Quitter” (from her Greatest Hits collection) and the promo track “Today Is Your Day,” Shania covered just about every base with her song selections. One of the coolest moments of the evening was her rendition of “Carrie Anne,” which she dedicated to her mother. Twain’s sister – who just happens to be named Carrie Anne – is also a part of the evening. More fun was had when Shania welcomed some audience members to the stage to create a singing around the campfire moment. These fans will likely not soon forget the moment in time when they were a part of this magical show. Watching her control the stage and audience with her moves, her voice, and her stories, I for one cannot wait to witness the legend that is Shania Twain when she tours North America later this summer. But in the mean time, forget your troubles, grab a cold beverage, some friends, and a copy of Still The One: Live From Vegas and have a fun two hours…
