Eden’s Curse has been on my radar since their debut release, but with constant ebb and flow of the musical tides, they occasionally are cast aside for more recent releases. With this disc, the band digs back through their catalog and allows the latest addition on vocals to tackle songs new and old – all captured in a live setting for your listening enjoyment. Lead vocalist Nikola Mijic handles himself and the material quite well. The real test in my mind were the oldest track on the package, “Fly Away” and “Judgement Day.” These tracks were on the debut disc that caught my attention and made me a fan of the band, but they came across really well in this performance.
Pulling from all four of their studio releases, the band played their asses off for the Glasgow audience and packed a punch with their selection of tracks to play. The setlist moved around and captured the essence of Eden’s Curse and gave the crowd plenty of exciting rock to grab hold of and rock out to. Leaning heavier on the latest release, 2013’s Symphony Of Sin, bassist Paul Logue and drummer John Clelland anchored the tracks, as well as any rhythm section had done on the various recordings the band has issued. ripping through three songs each from the bands Second Coming and Trinity albums, the playing and trade-off between guitarist Thorsten Koehne and keyboardist Steve Williams was seamless and a great balance of the two instruments. A bonus was in the inclusion of “Time To Breathe” – a single only release from 2012. I am not normally a fan of live recordings, but this collection comes off more like a cool re-recording of the bands best material by one of its tightest sounding lineups. This release should please fans new and old.
